Common questions about Sorcery: Contested Realm
What is Sorcery: Contested Realm?
Sorcery: Contested Realm is a hand-painted fantasy trading card game designed by Erik Olofsson and published by Erik's Curiosa Limited. Two players face off across a 5×4 grid called The Realm, commanding Avatars whose life total is the target. All artwork is traditional media — oils, acrylics, watercolours, ink — with no digital illustration.
Where can I buy Sorcery: Contested Realm cards?
TCGPlayer is the largest US marketplace; Fetch TCG, SCR Marketplace, and CardNexus are dedicated Sorcery-friendly platforms; sorcerytcg.eu serves Europe; Fyendal Hobby + 4elements cover Asia; Fabled Games covers Australia. See the full directory below, filterable by region.
How do I play Sorcery online?
The official Tabletop Simulator mod is the most-used way to play online. Import your Curiosa.io deck, find an opponent in the Sorcerers Summit or Sorcerers at the Core Discord servers, and play in browser-shared TTS lobbies. Full setup guide is in the articles section.
What are Curio cards?
Curios are extremely rare alternate-art or back-variant cards slipped into the Ordinary slot of Sorcery booster packs. Erik's Curiosa has never officially acknowledged them. The community has archived 70+ across Alpha, Beta, Arthurian Legends, Dragonlord, and Gothic. Per-set documentation is in the articles section.
How is Sorcery different from Magic: The Gathering?
Sorcery uses a 5×4 board where minions move and attack adjacent tiles — closer to a tactical board game than a stack-based card game. Threshold (the resource system) is a permanent floor your Sites unlock, not mana you spend. Every card pool stays legal — Sorcery doesn't rotate. Detailed comparison in the articles section.
How many sets are there?
Five so far: Alpha (the Kickstarter launch set), Beta, Arthurian Legends, Dragonlord, and Gothic (December 2025). The pool doesn't rotate — every card stays tournament-legal. Per-set explainers are in the articles section.
Which preconstructed deck should I start with?
The Beta elemental precons (Air, Earth, Fire, Water) are the cleanest first buy; Gothic's Prophets of Doom decks are the current-set option. There's a full precon buying guide in the articles section.
Is Sorcery: Contested Realm worth getting into in 2026?
If you like deep tactical play and traditional hand-painted art, yes — the rules are stable, the secondary market is active, and there's a real organized-play scene. Sealed product isn't cheap, but precon decks are an affordable on-ramp. Full breakdown in the articles section.
